Coaching

Description

Coaching is the “service” that I provide as your business and career strategist. In our coaching sessions, we collaborate on the development of success strategies that bring you the satisfaction and results that you desire.

Whether you are starting or building your own business, leading or managing an organization or undertaking a career move, coaching is an effective way to help you reach a new level, address a challenge or enhance your skills.

Explore how you can utilize coaching to build your business and manage your career.

Benefits

The bottom line benefit of coaching is that it can help you get from where you are, to where you want to be. And in the process, you’ll accomplish more in less time, and make significant improvements in both your personal and professional endeavors because you’ll have more clarity, focus and direction.

Unlike attending a seminar or reading a book, our work together is tailored to accomplishing your specific goals and objectives in “real time.” This gives you the opportunity to immediately apply the strategies that we develop to address both your short-term and long-term priorities. The results are immediate, and you will learn much more quickly what works for you than you ever could through coursework or reading alone.

Coaching Sessions

Our work together is in the context of “coaching sessions,” which are regular pre-scheduled meetings that take place either in-person or over the telephone. Depending on the structure you prefer, both 30-minute and 60-minute sessions are available on either a weekly, bi-monthly or “as-needed” basis.

Described as collaborative and conversational, coaching sessions are structured to include a blend of questions, accountability and direction - always with an eye toward keeping you on track to achieving the objectives you have set forth. And often times, coaching “homework” is issued to serve as a learning tool to enhance the coaching process. In any event, the intent of all sessions is to serve your particular needs.

In preparation for a coaching session, many clients use the Coaching Session Prep Form provided in your coaching materials. This can be a valuable tool in setting your agenda for each session.

Our coaching relationship and all that is discussed in our coaching sessions is strictly confidential. This is done to protect your privacy and create a safe place to discuss what are often times sensitive business and careers issues.

The Coaching Process

Step 1 - Beginning with your complimentary consultation and into your initial sessions, we start with understanding and clarifying your goals. This serves to align you with what you want to achieve, and is the roadmap for your coaching process.

Step 2 - Subsequent sessions then focus on developing practical strategies and tactics that you act upon, which are intended to help you accomplish your goals and create the results you desire.

The timeline of your coaching process will depend on your particular needs, goals and objectives, and can be as brief or as lengthy as you prefer.

What Do Executives Say
About Coaching?

In an article published by Ivey Management Services, a division of the Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario, executives from a range of industry sectors including manufacturing, financial services, government, health care and pharmaceuticals, were interviewed and asked -

What are the benefits of coaching?

The results are from executives who were working on improving their leadership skills, specifically focusing on fine-tuning their vision for the business; empowering and motivating staff; improving their communication and listening skills; and becoming more confident and assertive.

Interestingly, these executives were in agreement that strong leadership is not about technical competence.
Instead, they said the priority for leaders was to gain competence in the soft skills domain. They equated strong leadership with heightened levels of emotional intelligence.

Executives identified five significant benefits of coaching as a leadership development strategy.

  1. Continuous one-on-one attention
  2. Expanded thinking through dialogue with a curious outsider
  3. Self-awareness, including blind spots
  4. Personal accountability for development
  5. Just-in-time learning

1. Continuous one-on-one attention

The executives said the most significant benefit was the individualized attention they received from their coaches. Add to this the fact that coaching takes place over an extended period of time and it becomes a great way to acquire, practice, and ingrain new skills.
